Earning notice with the Matra Ford in 1968, the Tyrrell team became a Formula One celebrity. From right out the gate, the racing group garnered excellent results on the track.  In 1970, the crew revealed their own in-house design the 001. Its success paved the way for the 002 and the 003 in 1971. Piloted by Jackie Stewart, the unique 003 went on to win six out of the eleven races it entered and earn it the season’s title for best driver and best constructor. The 003 utilized a unique integrated front wing and a lower than usual radiator; both of these features made the Tyrrell 003 distinguishable at high-speeds.

Besides replicating the obvious, Tamiya put a lot of work into capturing the essence of this high-powered racer. For example, the miniature steering wheel can control the direction of its front wheels and all body pieces can be removed after assembly to show off a beautiful sub-frame.
